Join us for Spokane Nordic's 2nd annual Winterfest, a celebration of skiing, snow and (hopefully) sunshine, a day of fun events for all ages and ski abilities at the Mt. Spokane Cross-Country Ski Park. Pick your favorite event, or take in the whole day.

Cost: Ski lessons and skijoring clinic $5. All other events free, but donations are welcome.

Prizes: Register for any activity by Friday January 9 to be entered into a draw for prizes including REI pack with walking poles; ski carrying bag; Salomon 3-pair ski bag; Spokane Nordic-logo hats, and more!

* A Sno-Park pass is required to park in the State Parks for WinterFest. Season and 1-day passes are available at REI, Mountain Gear and Fitness Fanatics in Spokane, and at the Selkirk Lodge ski rental hut. Single-day passes must be accompanied by a State Parks Discovery Pass.

Event Descriptions

Donut Dash

  • A fun-filled 2-person relay ski sprint race featuring frequent prize drawings and “frosting” of racers by bystanders
  • Two categories: recreational and competitive
  • Teams of mixed ages / genders will make it even more fun!
  • Every team is guaranteed at least 2 races
  • Meet at the Training Area up the hill from Selkirk Lodge at 1:30
  • Registration is open until Friday, Jan 9 or until registration limit is reached. Day-of registration may be available but is not guaranteed.
  • Register your team here, or register single and we'll team you with someone at the race

Cider Trail to Nova Hut

  • An easy-going “folk ski” from Selkirk Lodge to Nova Hut, with bowls of soup and mugs of hot cider waiting at the destination
  • Meet at the Main Trailhead Sign up the hill from Selkirk Lodge at 11:00 a.m.

Back-Cider Trail to Nova Hut

  • A guided moderate-difficulty “backcountry” ski trail route from Selkirk Lodge to Nova Hut, with bowls of soup and mugs of hot cider waiting at the destination
  • Meet at the Main Trailhead Sign up the hill from Selkirk Lodge at 11:00 a.m.

Moose Droppings scavenger hunt to Nova hut

  • A fun-filled adventure to get to Nova Hut for lunch, for kids and childish adults
  • Meet at the Main Trailhead Sign up the hill from Selkirk Lodge at 11:00 a.m.

Snowshoe Trek

  • meet at the Lower Loop Road Sno-Park lot, which is about 2 miles up the park road from the entrance, on the right
  • Group departs at 11:00 a.m.
  • Trek is 1.25 miles to the new Snowshoe Warming Hut. Hang out and eat cookies

Ski Lessons

  • one-hour ski lessons, beginner or intermediate, classic or skate style. Limit of 1 lesson per person
  • Meet in the Selkirk Lodge 10 minutes prior to lesson time 
  • Registration is open until Friday, Jan 9 or until class is full. Day-of registration may be available but is not guaranteed
  • $5 registration fee supports the Spokane Nordic Ski Association

Back-Country Skiing Clinic

  • Will cover a number of back-country skiing skills and topics including ascent and descent techniques, with an ascent to the summit of Mt. Spokane.
  • Participants can use either AT (alpine touring) or telemark gear. Rentals are available at Mountain Gear in Spokane.
  • Limited to 10 participants
  • Meet outside Selkirk Lodge
  • Registration is open until Friday, Jan 17 or until class is full.

Skijoring Clinic

  • 1-hour introduction to skijoring, the perfect union of man's best friend and everyone's favorite winter activity!
  • Meet inside Selkirk Lodge without dogs, then move onto the snow with dogs after a brief introduction.
  • Limited to 6 participants. If registration fills, email info@spokanenordic to be put on a waiting list.
  • Registration is open until Friday, Jan 17 or until class is full. Day-of registration may be available but is not guaranteed.
  • Humans will need a skijor belt and tether line. Dogs will need to have a proper fitting harness in order to participate in the clinic. Some equipment may be available to borrow for the day, depending on the size of the dog. 
  • The $5 registration fee goes toward Skijoring development on Mt. Spokane

Waxing Clinic

  • The wax clinic will cover basic waxing technique as well as some current trends in the waxing industry. 
  • It will cater the presentation to all skill levels but focus on the process of waxing and the tools and equipment necessary to maximize your skis life and performance.
  • Meet outside Selkirk Lodge at 10:00 a.m.
